People and the planet are only as healthy as the ecosystems we all depend on. Without reviving ecosystems, we cannot achieve the Sustainable Development Goals or the Paris Climate Agreement. But ecosystems are also complex and highly varied, and their restoration needs careful planning and patient implementation.

World Environment Day 2021 also marks the launch of the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration, a rallying call for the protection and revival of ecosystems all around the world, for the benefit of people and nature. The UN Decade runs from 2021 through 2030, which is also the deadline for the Sustainable Development Goals and the timeline scientists have identified as the last chance to prevent catastrophic climate change. It aims to halt the degradation of ecosystems, and restore them to achieve global goals. Only with healthy ecosystems can we enhance people’s livelihoods, counteract climate change, and stop the collapse of biodiversity.
El Día del Medio Ambiente de 2021 también marca el inicio de una Década en las Naciones Unidas de Recuparación de Ecosistemas, un grito de guerra para la protección y la recuperación de los ecosistemas alrededor del mundo, en beneficio de las personas y de la naturaleza. Esta Década que va desde el 2021 hasta el 2030, es también la fecha límite para los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible y el plazo que los científicos han identificado como la última oportunidad para evitar un Cambio Climático Catastrófico. The term “gastrodiplomacy” refers to concerted and sustained campaigns of public relations and investment by governments and states, often in collaboration with non-state actors, to increase the value and standing of their nation brand through food. Food is used to pursue diplomatic aims in government-to-public diplomacy.
El término «diplomacia gastronómica» se refiere a campañas organizadas y sostenidas en el tiempo de relaciones públicas y de inversiones por parte de los Gobiernos y los Estados, a menudo en colaboración con entidades no estatales para incrementar el valor y el prestigio de la marca de la Nación a través de la comida. World No Tobacco Day (WNTD) is observed around the world every year on 31 May. This yearly celebration informs the public on the dangers of using tobacco, the business practices of tobacco companies, what the World Health Organization (WHO) is doing to fight against the use of tobacco, and what people around the world can do to claim their right to health and healthy living and to protect future generations.[1]
El Día Mundial Sin Tabaco se celebra el 31 de mayo de cada año. Esta celebración anual informa al público de los peligros de utilizar tabaco, de las prácticas de negocio de las compañías tabaqueras y de lo que la Organización Mundial de la Salud está haciendo para combatir el consumo del tabaco. The Member States of the WHO created World No Tobacco Day in 1987 to draw global attention to the tobacco epidemic and the preventable death and disease it causes. The day is further intended to draw attention to the widespread prevalence of tobacco use and to negative health effects, which currently lead to more than 8 million deaths each year worldwide, including 1.2 million as the result of non-smokers being exposed to second-hand smoke.[2] The day has been met with both enthusiasm and resistance around the globe from governments, public health organizations, smokers, growers, and the tobacco industry.

It is time for me to bid my last farewell and thank my students and coworkers fo a wonderful year at IES Huelin. I have spent the last school year working as an Auxiliar de Conversacíon with some very kind and creative teachers as well as with some energetic and eager to learn students. My coworkers were always there to gently guide me in creating and administering activities. I consider myself lucky because they gave me free range to create lessons in relation to class topics and because of that my creativity flourished. All of the teachers I worked with were extremely gifting in teaching. Many times I felt as if I was a student myself. The oldest student of course. The students always impressed me with their English speaking abilities. And might I add they never ceased to make me laugh. Due to COVID regulations I had the opportunity to work with all of the levels a month more or less. This allowed me to spend more time with each level and foster good relationships with my students. During my time working with the students I made it my mission to create interesting lessons that would capture their attention and urge them to participate. I believe I really accomplished this in my English and geography classes. I also did my very best to create a comfortable learning environment for the students. To ensure this, I made sure to always give positive feedback to my students. I believe creating a comfortable environment is essential to learning English.
A mi familia del IES Huelin:
Es tiempo para mí de ofrecer mi último adiós y de dar las gracias a mis alumnos y a mis compañeros de trabajo por un año maravilloso en el IES Huelin. He pasado el último curso escolar trabajando como Auxiliar de Conversación con unos profesores muy amables y muy creativos así como llenos de energía y con unos alumnos muy dinámicos y ansiosos por aprender. Mis compañeros de trabajo siempre han estado ahí para guiarme con amabilidad a la hora de crear y de administrar las actividades. Me considero afortunada porque me dieron una amplia gama de posibilidades para crear lecciones en ralación con los temas de la clase y debido a eso afloró mi creatividad. Todos los profesores con los que he trabajado estaban realmente dotados para la enseñanza. Muchas veces me he sentido como si yo misma fuese una alumna. Sobre todo cuando estaba con los alumnos mayores. Los alumnos siempre me impresionaron con sus destrezas orales de inglés. Y podría añadir que nunca dejaron de hacerme reír. Debido a las regulaciones por el COVID tuve la oportunidad de pasar más tiempo con cada uno de los niveles y de fomentar unas buenas relaciones con mis alumnos. Durante mi tempo de trabajo con los alumnos fue mi misión la de crear unas lecciones interesantes que captasen su atención y les animasen a participar. Creo que realmente cumplí este objetivo en las clases de Inglés y de Geografía. También me esforcé para crear un ambiente de trabajo en el que los alumnos se sintiesen a gusto. Para asegurarme de ello, comprobé que siempre daba una retroalimentación positiva a mis alumnos. Creo que crear un ambiente de trabajo agradable es esencial para el aprendizaje del inglés.
I would also like to thank my Coordinator Paco Garcia for helping me along the way. I truly appreciated his kind manner of encouragement. I would also like to thank health keepers at the school for always being the first people I saw in the morning. Their good morning greetings and waves always started my day off on the right foot.
También me gustaría darle las gracias al Coordinador Bilingüe, Paco García, por ayudarme a lo largo del camino. Aprecio sinceramente su modo tan amable de incentivarme. Now I will transfer into my next chapter of life working as either an auxiliar in another region or back in the United States. My time spent at IES Huelin has emphasized my abilities in teamwork and my teaching English. I will take the experiences from IES Huelin and carry them with me to the next phase of life.
Ahora empezaré un nuevo capítulo de mi vida bien trabajando como Auxiliar de Conversación en otra Comunidad o me trasladaré de nuevo a los Estados Unidos. The Old Man and the Sea is a short novel written by the American author Ernest Hemingway in 1951 in Cayo Blanco (Cuba), and published in 1952.[1] It was the last major work of fiction written by Hemingway that was published during his lifetime. One of his most famous works, it tells the story of Santiago, an aging Cubanfisherman who struggles with a giant marlin far out in the Gulf Stream off the coast of Cuba.[2]
«El viejo y el mar» es una novela breve escrita por el escritor estadounidense Ernest Hemingway en 1951 en Cayo Blanco (Cuba) y publicada en 1952. Fue el último gran trabajo de ficción escrito por Hemingway que fue publicado en vida. Una de sus obras más famosas, cuenta la historia de Santiago, un anciano pescador cubano que lucha con pez espada en las corrientes del Golfo en la costa de Cuba.

As you may already know, this year, the Bilingual Staff of IES Huelin, is working on the Sustainable Development Goals. For the United Nations, the Goal of the Month of May 2021 is Decent Work and Economic Growth. Within this goal, a matter of special concern is the Elimination of Child Labour.
Como puede que ya sepáis, el profesorado bilingüe del IES Huelin está trabajando este año en los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible. Para las Naciones Unidas, el Objetivo del Mes de Mayo es un Trabajo Digno y el Desarrollo Económico. Dentro de este Objetivo, un asunto de especial interés es la eliminación del trabajo infantil.
The International Labour Organization says that substantial progress has been achieved in recent years – between 2000 and 2016 alone, there was a 38 per cent decrease in child labour globally. Despite the extraordinary momentum, more than 150 million children around the world are still in child labour – a third of them are outside the education system, nearly 40 percent work in hazardous conditions and almost two-thirds work more than 43 hours per week. Moreover, the COVID-19 pandemic is threatening to reverse years of progress.
La Organización Internacional del Trabajo dice que se ha hecho un progreso significativo en los últimos años. De hecho, sólo entre el 2000 y el 2016, ha habido una disminución de un 38% en el trabajo infantil a nivel mundial. A pesar de este impulso extraordinario, más de 150 millones de niños alrededor del mundo están siendo explotados laboralmente. Un tercio de ellos están fuera del sistema educativo, casi el 40% de los mismos trabajan en condiciones peligrosas y casi dos tercios trabajan más de 43 horas por semanas. Ademásl la pandemia de la COVID 19 amenaza con revertir tantos años de progreso.
