Thanksgiving Day was held at IES Huelin during the week of November 26th.This activity is part of a series of activities planned by the bilingual project coordinator to publicize the culture of the English-speaking world. Beatriz Escalante, our language assistant from Arizona, unveiled a typical festivity in the United States. Beatriz explained to the students the origins of this festivity and the way it is celebrated nowadays, being one of the most important holidays in the United States and Canada.
Thanksgiving Day is a national holiday celebrated primarily in the United States and Canada as a day of giving thanks for the blessing of the harvest and of the preceding year. It is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November in the United States and on the second Monday of October in Canada. Several other places around the world observe similar celebrations. Thanksgiving has its historical roots in religious and cultural traditions, and has long been celebrated in a secular manner as well.
The students brought some food to contribute to the celebration and they expressed their gratitude for the good things they have in life.
