Sonnet 18 is one of the best-known of the 154 sonnets<\/a> written by the English playwright and poet William Shakespeare<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In the sonnet<\/a>, the speaker asks whether he should compare the young man to a summer’s day, but notes that the young man has qualities that surpass a summer’s day. He also notes the qualities of a summer day are subject to change and will eventually diminish.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The speaker then states that the young man will live forever in the lines of the poem, as long as it can be read.[2]<\/a><\/sup> There is an irony being expressed in this sonnet: it is not the actual young man who will be eternalized, but the description of him contained in the poem, and the poem contains scant or no description of the young man, but instead contains vivid and lasting descriptions of a summer day; which the young man is supposed to outlive.[3]<\/a><\/sup><\/strong><\/p>\n

El hablante entonces afirma que el jovenn vivir\u00e1 para siempre en las l\u00edneas del poema,siempre y cuando pueda ser le\u00eddo. Hay una iron\u00eda expresada en el soneto. No es el hombre joven real el que ser\u00e1 hecho eterno, sino la desccripcici\u00f3n que se hace de \u00e9l en el poema, y el poema apenas contiene una descripci\u00f3n del mismo (m\u00e1s bien ninguna). En vez de eso, contiene im\u00e1genes v\u00edvidas y duraderas de un d\u00eda de\u00a0 verano, al que se supone que el joven sobrevivir\u00e1.<\/p>\n
