World Book Day, also known as World Book and Copyright Day, or International Day of the Book, is an annual event<\/a> organized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization<\/a> (UNESCO) to promote reading<\/a>, publishing<\/a>, and copyright<\/a>. The first World Book Day was celebrated on 23 April in 1995, and continues to be recognized on that day. A related event in the United Kingdom and Ireland<\/a> is observed in March. <\/strong><\/p>\n

El D\u00eda mundial del libro, tambi\u00e9n conocido como el D\u00eda Mundial del libro y de los derechos de autor, o D\u00eda Internacional del Libro es un evento anual organizado por la UNESCO (Organizaci\u00f3n de las Naciones Unidas para la Educaci\u00f3n, la Ciencia y la Cultura) para fomentar la lectura, las publicaciones y los derechos de autor. El prmer D\u00eda del Libro se celebr\u00f3 el 23 de abril de 1995 y contin\u00faa celebr\u00e1ndose ese d\u00eda. Hay un acontecimiento\u00a0 relacionado con \u00e9ste en el Reino Unido y en Irlanda que tiene lugar en Marzo. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The original idea was of the Spanish writer Vicente Clavel Andr\u00e9s as a way to honour the author Miguel de Cervantes<\/a>, first on 7 October, his birth date, then on 23 April, his death date. In 1995 UNESCO<\/a> decided that the World Book and Copyright Day would be celebrated on 23 April, as the date is also the anniversary of the death of Miguel de Cervantes, William Shakespeare<\/a> and Inca Garcilaso de la Vega<\/a>, as well as that of the birth or death of several other prominent authors.[1]<\/a><\/sup> (In a historical coincidence, Shakespeare and Cervantes died on the same date<\/i> \u2014 23 April 1616 \u2014 but not on the same day<\/i>, as at the time, Spain used the Gregorian calendar<\/a> and England used the Julian calendar<\/a>; Shakespeare actually died 10 days after Cervantes died, on 3 May of the Gregorian calendar). <\/strong><\/p>\n

La idea original fue del escritor espa\u00f1ol Vicente Clavel Andr\u00e9s como modo de honrar al autor Miguel de Cervantes, primero en su fecha de nacimiento, el 7 de octubre, y despu\u00e9s el 23 de abril, en su fecha de fallecimiento. En 1995 la Unesco decidi\u00f3 que el D\u00eda del LIbro se celebrase el 23 de abril, ya que la fecha es tambi\u00e9n el aniversario de la muerte de MIguel de Cervantes, de Shakespeare y del inca Garcilaso de la Vega, as\u00ed como la fecha de nacimiento o de muerte de otros autores insignes. Es una coincidencia hist\u00f3rica que Shakespeare y Cervanes muriesen el mismo d\u00eda, el 23 de abril de 1616, pero no fue de hecho el mismo d\u00eda, ya que en aquella \u00e9poca Espa\u00f1a utilizaba el Calendario Gregoriano e Inglaterra el Juliano. Shakespeare, en realidad, muri\u00f3 10 d\u00edas despu\u00e9s de que muriese Cervanes, el 3 de mayo seg\u00fan el Calendario Gregoriano.<\/p>\n

His shiny dome and brown tobacco jar<\/p>\n

Splintered at once in tears. It wasn’t grief.<\/p>\n

I cried for knowledge which was bitterer<\/p>\n

Than any grief. For there and then I knew<\/p>\n

That grief has uses – that a father dead<\/p>\n

Could bind the bully’s fist a week or two;<\/p>\n

And then I cried for shame, then for relief.<\/p>\n

I was a month past ten when I learnt this:<\/p>\n

I still remember how the noise was stilled<\/p>\n

In school-assembly when my grief came in.<\/p>\n

Some goldfish in a bowl quietly sculled<\/p>\n

Around their shining prison on its shelf<\/p>\n

They were indifferent. All the other eyes<\/p>\n

Were turned towards me. Somewhere in myself<\/p>\n

Pride, like a goldfish, flashed a sudden fin.<\/p>\n

en el sal\u00f3n de actos cuando me entr\u00f3 la aflicci\u00f3n.<\/em><\/p>\n

Algunos peces de colores aleteaban silenciosamente en una pecera. <\/em><\/p>\n

Eran indiferentes. Los ojos que quedaban en el sal\u00f3n de actos<\/em><\/p>\n

se giraron hacia m\u00ed. En alg\u00fan lugar dentro de m\u00ed mismo<\/em><\/p>\n
