Teachers’ Day is a special day for the appreciation of teachers<\/a>, and may include celebrations to honor them for their special contributions in a particular field area, or the community in general.<\/strong><\/p>\n

El D\u00eda del profesor es un d\u00eda especial en el que se reconoce la labor de los mismos, y puede incluir celebraciones para homenajearlos por su aportaci\u00f3n especial en un campo espec\u00edfico laboral o por su trabajo por la comunidad en general.<\/p>\n

The idea of celebrating Teachers’ Day took root in many countries during the 19th century; in most cases, they celebrate a local educator or an important milestone in education. This is the primary reason why countries celebrate this day on different dates, unlike many other International Days. For example, Argentina has commemorated Domingo Faustino Sarmiento<\/a>‘s death on 11 September as Teachers\u2019 day since 1915.[1]<\/a><\/sup> In India the birthday of the second president Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan<\/a> (5 September) is celebrated as Teacher’s Day since 1962[2]<\/a><\/sup> and Guru Purnima<\/a> is traditionally observed as a day to venerate teachers by Hindus.<\/strong><\/p>\n

La idea de celebrar El D\u00eda del profesor se arraig\u00f3 en muchos pa\u00edses durante el siglo XIX. En la mayor\u00eda de los casos, se homenajea a un profesor local o un logro importante en el terreno de la educaci\u00f3n. Esta es la raz\u00f3n primordial por la que muchos pa\u00edses celebran este d\u00eda en fechas diferentes, a diferencia de otros D\u00edas Internacionales. Por ejemplo, Argentina conmemora desde 1915 la muerte de Domingo Faustino Sarmiento el 11 de septiembre como su D\u00eda del profesor. Teachers’ Day is annually celebrated in Spain on November 27. This holiday was established to commemorate Joseph Calasanz, Catholic priest, educator and the patron saint of the first popular Christian school in Europe.<\/strong><\/p>\n

I would like to finish my post by translating the letter that Albert Camus wrote to his teacher once he won the Nobel Prize. I find it most inspiring!<\/strong><\/p>\n
