Whilst it must remain clear that this is by no means a conclusion based on infallible scientific evidence, the CEO of the Happiness Research Institute has recently published his observations which suggest that the world\u2019s happiest people \u2013 the smiliest, at least \u2013 are to be found in the city of M\u00e1laga.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n


Aunque debemos dejar claro que \u00e9sta nos es para nada una conclusi\u00f3n basada en pruebas cient\u00edficas evidentes, el Oficial Ejecutivo en Jefe del Instituto de Investigaci\u00f3n de la Felicidad ha publicado recientemente sus observaciones que sugieren que las personas m\u00e1s felices del mundo (al menos las m\u00e1s sonrientes) se encuentran el la ciudad de M\u00e1laga.

Published by Meik Wiking, in his book titled The Little Book of Lykke (which translates as \u201cHappiness\u201d in English), one of the aims of the project was to see where in the world people were most contented while going about their everyday business and suggesting reasons for the apparent proliferation of happiness.

La informaci\u00f3n publicada por Meik Wiking en su libro titulado \u00abThe Little Book of Lykke\u00bb (que se traduce como \u00abFelicidad\u00bb en Ingl\u00e9s), uno de los objetivos del proyecto era ver en qu\u00e9 lugar del mundo estaban las personas m\u00e1s contentas mientras iban a sus negocios todos los d\u00edas y sugiere razones para la aparente proliferaci\u00f3n de la felicidad.

The hypothesis was drawn from a sample of 20 cities across Europe, Asia, North America and Africa, where the research method was observing a random sample of passers-by in the 20 selected urban centres and taking a ratio of \u201csmilers\u201d to \u201cnon-smilers\u201d.

La hip\u00f3tesis se dedujo de una muestra de 20 ciudades en Europa, Asia, Norteam\u00e9rica y \u00c1fica, donde el m\u00e9todo de investigaci\u00f3n consisti\u00f3 en observar al azar muestras de viandantes en los centros urbanos de esas veinte ciudades y establecer una ratio de personas que sonre\u00edan y personas que no sonre\u00edan.

With an approximate smiling population of 14%, the Costa del Sol\u2019s traditional and bustling capital tops Wiking\u2019s list. In second and third place were Milan and Kuala Lumpur, while the Spanish capital, Madrid, ranked fifth.<\/strong>

Con una porcentaje aproximado de poblaci\u00f3n del 14%, la tradicional y bulliciosa capital de la Costa del Sol encabeza el r\u00e1nking de la lista de Wiking. En segundo lugar estaban Mil\u00e1n y Kuala Lumpur, mientras que la capital espa\u00f1ola, Madrid, estaba en quinta posici\u00f3n.

The explanation for this result, according to the book, is related to the eminently social nature of Spanish people and the Costa del Sol lifestyle. Wiking\u2019s deduction was that people in Spain \u2013 and particularly M\u00e1laga \u2013 appear happier because they are often accompanied when walking out on the street.<\/strong>

La explicaci\u00f3n de este resultado, seg\u00fan el libro, est\u00e1 relacionada con la naturaleza eminentemente social de los espa\u00f1oles y el estilo de vida en la Costa del Sol. La hip\u00f3tesis de Wiking es que las personas en Espa\u00f1a- y especialmente en M\u00e1laga – parecen ser m\u00e1s felices porque suelen estar acompa\u00f1adas cuando pasean por las calles.

Wiking sees a \u201csignificant correlation\u201d between walking with a partner (or friend) and smiling frequency. For this reason, cities like New York, Seoul and Riga have a low smiling ratio, as more than 80% of their inhabitants walk solo during the day.
